As God’s second book, nature is rich in lessons that reflect His love, protection, and provision. Theme three, Deep in the Forest, invites students to explore the forest and other natural settings. They will discover the different types of plants and the animals who make their homes in them. They will also remember, or appreciate through reading, the adventures of camping out in nature.

The letters R, E, G, and A are emphasized in this unit. Pre-K children may struggle with pronouncing the “R” sound, but it’s not too early for them to recognize the letter and the sound that accompanies it. You might incorporate some fun practice with animal sounds such as purring like a cat (“purrrrrr”), or growl like a lion (“grrrrr”), or singing, “Row, row, row your boat”, in keeping with the nature/camping theme. It is typically one of the last sounds to be mastered, so no need to dwell on it too long.
